Open pit mining Use Cases
  • Environmental monitoring: Oversee water, air and greenhouse gas levels and detect hazardous pollutants in order to keep workers safe and support ESG compliance.
  • Critical worker communications: Improve worker coordination above and below the surface with push-to-talk and push-to-video, reducing energy footprints while biometric wearables communicate health data and emergencies in real-time.
  • Automated and remote-controlled operations: Minimize human error and maximize operational efficiency with autonomous and remote-controlled haulage trucks, drones and mining drills to improve idle time, fuel usage, site security and worker safety.
  • Predictive maintenance: Monitor drill rigs, fleets and other critical systems in real-time with sensors and digital twins to detect failures in advance – reducing downtime, incidents and wasted energy.
Disclaimer: The sustainability calculator shows estimates only. The estimates and calculations are based on certain assumptions and real-life deployments may be impacted by other factors. Nokia can't be held accountable if benefits realized from deployments in the field differ from the calculator's forecasted estimate. Nokia does not warrant the accuracy of these calculations. The Nokia Private Wireless Sustainability Calculator uses a proprietary framework to provide indicative environmental and social impacts for industry use cases.

For Wi-Fi 6 we define “addressable” incidents, costs and emissions as negative impacts on society that can be rectified by implementing private wireless within the aforementioned industry use cases. While both Wi-Fi and private wireless networks play an important role in industrial digitalization, private wireless provides an additional technology layer that helps to address critical use cases.

For Private wireless: “addressable” refers to the residual impacts of business operations that may be further reduced by private wireless use cases outside of the scope of this tool, as well as by other means. It also refers to the small amount of residual impacts that are unlikely to ever be reduced to zero.

Value to society: The above results reflect the equivalent percentile benefits of improving wellbeing – for people, businesses and processes – achieved by reducing costs and negative impacts.
